Steel Safe: Redefining Safety in Building – (Part 2)

Safety in building doesn’t only mean a structure that can withstand the elements, it’s also about ensuring the well-being of everyone involved in the construction process. Steel framing offers unparalleled advantages that make it a safer option, both for the finished structure and the workers who build it.

In our Steel Safe: Redefining safety in building – (Part 1), we touched base on how safety starts in house with our factory and team. In this blog post, we will explore all things relating to steel frame construction safety and how it is redefining safety on-site. Be aware, these insights ahead could change the way you think about building!

PART 2 – Steel Frame Construction Safety

In house assembly: Having our own in-house factory is quite nifty; by assembling trusses in-house, we ensure safer working methods on-site. This controlled environment means that every piece is manufactured with precision, reducing the need for on-site modifications and adjustments, workers spend less time handling potentially dangerous tools, significantly lowering the risk of accidents.

Nail Guns, who? One of the biggest safety advantages of steel framing is the elimination of nail guns. Nail guns are one of the most common sources of construction-related injuries, often resulting in puncture wounds, fractures, or even more severe accidents.

Our walls, trusses, and roofs are pre-assembled and automated to precision, hence nail gunned injuries that happen way too often, and the liability that builders and developers will have to deal with afterwards are non-existent.

Material Delivery: As we manage our own in-house production, we partner with the best out there for a safe, accurate and timely delivery of our material to construction sites.

Midland Hiab & Haulage has been our preferred partner for years. Our materials are carefully packaged and transported, minimizing the risk of damage or accidents during handling. By ensuring that materials arrive in optimal condition, the chance of injury from lifting, carrying, or manoeuvring heavy or awkwardly shaped items is significantly reduced.

No Silica Risk: Silica dust is a hazardous substance that can be released during the cutting, drilling, or grinding of materials such as concrete, brick, or stone—common tasks in traditional construction. Prolonged exposure to silica dust can lead to serious health issues, including respiratory problems and even silicosis.

With the ban on engineered stone in full effect, the spotlight is now on new rules that will apply to ALL products that contain 1% or more respirable crystalline silica.

WHS Regulations were released that provide stronger regulation in relation to the processing of all materials containing crystalline silica across all industries. The new laws will seriously impact residential building sites and result in significant changes.

This includes but is not limited to wall chasing whereby the use of powered saws without LEV leads to carbon monoxide exposure, the inadequate dust control and the slurry from wet cutting left on site, lead to risk of silica dust exposure!

With Centurion Framing Systems, this risk is virtually eliminated, as there is no need to cut or handle silica-containing materials on-site. Hence a healthier and safer work environment for everyone involved in the construction process.

On-site Training: We offer on-site training for our installers. This hands-on approach ensures that our trades are equipped with the knowledge and skills to install our steel frames, reducing the risk of injury and ensuring that the building process is completed efficiently and correctly.

At Centurion Framing System, we are leading the revolution to evolve the construction industry into a better and safer working environment.

When safety measures are built into the very foundation of your construction process, you not only protect your team but also ensure a project that progresses smoothly, efficiently, and without unnecessary delays.
